Everyone loves to be able to say "I toldya so," and I’m no different. In November of last year and again last month I discussed the logic of Google offering online storage, or a GDrive, from which people could access all their data from any device. Well, word has leaked that Google is indeed planning on offering online storage.
The evidence was included in a PowerPoint presentation that Google published to accompany a presentation given at the company’s annual analyst conference last Thursday by Chief Executive Eric Schmidt.
Greg Linden apparently first discovered the PowerPoint slides addressing the GDrive. Google has subsequently removed the PowerPoint presentation but you can view a PDF version here.
As enthusiastic as I am over the potential a GDrive presents for mobile marketing, John Battelle makes some great arguments at his Searchblog for why consolidating your data on one company’s servers might have some serious drawbacks.
